File Note: It is submitted that the peak production season for beer is summers and the industry has adequate plantation area for disposal of treated effluent in summer season. Other than summers, the industry is required to operate its unit below half production capacity due to low demand. As per data submitted by the industry, treated effluent of the industry was less than 273 KLD in the last two years. However, as per the theoretical calculation, if we calculate the adequacy of land at full production throughout the year, land area developed by the industry is only sufficient to discharge treated effluent @ 330 KLD only in summers. In rainy season, it may discharge only 291 KLD and in winters, it may discharge only 294.6 KLD. It is therefore recommended that the industry may be granted 'Consent to Operate' under Water (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 upto 31.03.2027 with special condition that the industry shall not discharge its trade effluent more than 291 KLD in rainy season and winters.
