The industry was given personal hearing before the Chairman of the Board w.r.t. show cause notice for revocation of consent to operate granted under the Water Act, 1974 alongwith notice to issue directions u/s 33-A of the Water Act, 1974 on 23.11.2023, wherein, it was decided that Consent to operate granted under the Water (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 be revoked.
Earlier, the industry had obtained 'Consent to Operate' under Water (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 for disposal of trade effluent @ 14 KLD into sewer after ETP. Now, it has applied varied 'Consent to Operate' under Water (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 for disposal of trade effluent @ 10 KLD onto land for plantation after ETP.
The industry has submitted clarification letter with the subject cited application, which is reproduced as under:
“This is to inform you that our current discharge of Wastewater is maximum 8 KLD. We usually run our scouring machine for three days in a week. Our scouring production is sufficient enough to supply scoured wool to our combing department. We previously took the water consent for 14 KLD in forecast of an expansion in the field of scouring or garment washing in the near future. However, as per current scenario with strict recession we could not manage to do any additional investment. Our existing Scouring machine generates only 7 to 8 KLD of wastewater and now since our Eucalyptus Tree Plantation is capable to absorb only 10 KLD of wastewater, we have thereby applied 'Consent to Operate' for trade effluent @ 10 KLD. It is thereby humbly requested to your good self to grant us the 'Consent to Operate'.”
Further, as per record maintained by the industry, which was verified during visit, it was observed that the industry has maximum discharge of treated trade effluent @ 8 KLD and no stagnation was observed in the plantation area.
