Discussed and it is submitted that at the time of appraisal of the project for grant of Environment Clearance, the Project Proponent had obtained due permission from the Municipal Corporation, Zirakpur for disposal of excess treated domestic effluent into the MC sewer, and the said disposal arrangement was duly examined and accepted by the Competent Authority while according Environmental Clearance to the project. Accordingly, the Environmental Clearance stipulates disposal of the treated wastewater into the MC sewer, subject to availability of adequate capacity at the terminal Sewage Treatment Plant. However, in view of the present assessment that the capacity of the terminal STP is not be adequate to accommodate the entire quantity of excess treated effluent at this stage, the Project Proponent has proposed an alternative arrangement and has earmarked 1.75 acres of land for utilization of treated wastewater onto land for plantation based on Karnal Technology; also, to formalize and ensure accountability of this arrangement, the Project Proponent has also submitted a duly signed undertaking, clearly committing that, prior to commissioning of the project, the treated effluent shall be disposed of into the MC sewer only after ensuring availability of adequate capacity at the terminal STP, and in the event of non-availability or insufficiency of such capacity, the treated effluent shall be utilized through plantation on the identified land parcel as per Karnal Technology.
